The Marine Intelligence Robotics Lab. (MIR Lab.) is a research laboratory at the UST–KRISO campus, led by Prof. Daegil Park and Prof. Jong-Boo Han.
MIR Lab. was established to advance fundamental and applied technologies for marine and underwater robotic systems, combining expertise in robot dynamics, control, autonomy, perception, and artificial intelligence.
Our research is closely connected to the extensive experience and research infrastructure of the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO). Through collaboration with researchers specializing in underwater robotics, autonomous systems, hydrodynamics, sensing, and ocean engineering, MIR Lab. provides an interdisciplinary environment where robotic technologies can be studied from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
A distinguishing characteristic of MIR Lab. is the integration of two complementary research directions.
Prof. Daegil Park focuses on the intelligence and autonomy of robotic systems, including autonomous navigation, perception, robot control, learning-based methods, and Physical AI.
Prof. Jong-Boo Han focuses on the physical and dynamic aspects of marine robots, including dynamics, modeling, analysis, design, and digital-twin of underwater robotic systems.
By integrating these two perspectives, MIR Lab. studies marine robots as complete systems — from their physical behavior and dynamic characteristics to their perception, decision-making, and autonomous operation.
Our long-term goal is to develop robotic systems that can reliably operate and perform complex tasks in challenging marine environments, while educating researchers who can bridge robotics, ocean engineering, and artificial intelligence.
